What the data shows

Three storms. Three months. Both counties.

In August 2024, Tropical Storm Debby dropped 12 inches of rain on the Sarasota-Bradenton area in a single day. 500 Sarasota residents were rescued from flooded homes. Manatee County rescued 186 more. Phillippi Creek overflowed into inland neighborhoods miles from the coast.

Weeks later, Hurricane Helene brought storm surge to Siesta Key, Lido Key, Anna Maria Island, and St. Armands Circle. Hurricane Milton followed in October. Sarasota flood barriers are now part of how many SRQ homeowners are preparing for the next event.

FEMA’s updated 2024 flood maps moved approximately 6,000 additional Sarasota County properties into mandatory flood insurance territory, with similar expansions in Manatee County. The First Street Foundation estimates nearly half of all Sarasota County properties face flood risk over the next 30 years.

Sarasota flood barriers are now a serious consideration for homes well outside historical flood zones.

Inland Flooding Risk

Phillippi Creek, Myakka River, and Manatee River corridors flooded inland neighborhoods miles from the coast during Debby. Storm surge is not the only threat for Sarasota and Bradenton homeowners.

FEMA 2024 Map Expansion

Approximately 6,000 additional Sarasota County properties moved into high-risk flood zones in 2024, with similar expansions in Manatee County. Many homeowners are now in mandatory flood insurance territory for the first time.

Barrier Island Surge Exposure

Siesta Key, Lido Key, and Anna Maria Island took direct storm surge during Helene. Casey Key, Manasota Beach, and St. Armands Circle suffered major infrastructure damage.

Three Storms in Three Months

Debby, Helene, and Milton hit the SRQ area between August and October 2024. The infrastructure was not designed for back-to-back compound events.

Primary solution

Custom flood barriers for Sarasota and Bradenton doors, garages, and openings.

Recent storm history

Recent Storm Events: Sarasota & Manatee Counties

1992: The Phillippi Creek Flood

14 inches of rain over three days. Bee Ridge Road flooded so high cars could not pass. The event that prompted Sarasota County to become the first Florida county with its own storm water utility.

March 2024: FEMA Updated Flood Maps

New maps took effect countywide. Approximately 6,000 additional Sarasota County homeowners moved into high-risk flood zones, many for the first time. The Myakka River corridor and Wellen Park area saw the largest expansions.

August 2024: Tropical Storm Debby

500 Sarasota residents rescued from flooded homes. 186 Manatee County residents pulled from floodwaters. A record 12 inches fell at Sarasota and Bradenton International Airport in a single day. Lakewood Ranch recorded over 16 inches.

September 2024: Hurricane Helene

Storm surge hit Siesta Key, Lido Key, and St. Armands Circle. Anna Maria Island in Manatee County took direct surge impacts. Casey Key Road, Midnight Pass, and Manasota Beach suffered infrastructure damage.

October 2024: Hurricane Milton

A third major storm event within three months. Sarasota and Bradenton International Airport lost the entire roof of one concourse and closed for five days. Flooding returned to neighborhoods already devastated by Debby and Helene.

Not all flood barriers are built the same. Our aluminum flood barrier systems use aerospace-grade aluminum cross sections, reinforced channel depth, and dual-phase EPDM compression gaskets engineered to a higher standard than most competing flood protection systems on the market in the Sarasota and Bradenton area. When homeowners across the SRQ region and Florida’s West Coast compare Sarasota flood barriers, the structural difference is visible.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions from Sarasota and Bradenton property owners.

Clear answers for SRQ-area homeowners comparing flood barriers, timing, FEMA zones, and long-term system reliability.

Do you install in both Sarasota and Manatee Counties?

Yes. Our team installs throughout the entire SRQ region: Sarasota city, Siesta Key, Lido Key, Venice, Osprey, Nokomis, Englewood, North Port, Wellen Park, Bradenton, Anna Maria Island, Palmetto, Lakewood Ranch, and surrounding communities.

How much does flood barrier installation cost in Sarasota or Bradenton?

Flood barrier systems are custom-quoted based on your opening count, dimensions, height requirements, and threshold conditions. Most SRQ-area projects are scoped during a free on-site assessment where our team measures every opening and provides a detailed recommendation. No generic estimates. Every quote is specific to your property.

My neighborhood flooded during Debby but I’m miles from the coast: am I really at risk?

Yes. Tropical Storm Debby proved that inland neighborhoods face serious flood risk with no storm surge at all. Phillippi Creek, the Myakka River, the Manatee River, and the counties’ canal networks can overwhelm quickly during heavy rain events. Sarasota flood barriers protect against both surge and stormwater flooding at your home’s entry points.

FEMA just updated my flood zone: what does that mean?

FEMA’s 2024 maps moved approximately 6,000 additional Sarasota County properties into high-risk zones, with similar expansions in Manatee County. Whether or not you are in a FEMA flood zone, your doors, garage, and sliders are vulnerable. A free assessment will show you exactly where your exposure points are.

Are your systems better than sandbags?

For repeat seasonal deployment, yes. Engineered aluminum planks and compression gaskets are more consistent, faster to deploy, and less labor-intensive than stacking sandbags.

How quickly can you install before a storm?

Sarasota flood barriers are fabricated to your exact dimensions and require an assessment, engineering, and scheduling. Last-minute installs cannot be guaranteed. The best time to act is now, before hurricane season. Schedule your assessment today.
