CAPE CORAL FLOOD BARRIERS. FOR A CITY BUILT ON CANALS.
Custom aluminum panels measured to the openings on your house, fabricated at our own Florida factory and installed by our own crew. Built for the surge that comes up the canals and across the yard.
Most Cape Coral flood barriers are sold as one-size kits shipped in a box. Ours are measured to your exact doors, garage and sliders and built for your house alone. On a canal lot, the water can reach you from more than one side, so fit is the whole game.
Takes less than 2 minutes to schedule. Hurricane season runs through November 30.
400 miles of canals. Every one is a way in.
By the city’s own count, Cape Coral has more than 400 miles of navigable waterways, more than any other city in the world. That is why people move here. It is also the path storm surge takes to reach a house that is nowhere near the Gulf.
When Hurricane Ian came ashore near Cayo Costa on September 28, 2022 as a Category 4, the National Hurricane Center reported maximum inundation of 6 to 9 feet above ground level in Pine Island, Cape Coral and the surrounding communities. The water did not need a beach. It came up the canals.
Then it came back. Helene pushed the Fort Myers tide gauge to 5.12 feet above mean high tide in September 2024, and Milton pushed it to 5.27 feet two weeks later. Three surge events in just over two years.
The city can dredge a canal and raise a road. That does nothing for the water at your garage door. That part is yours, and that is what a barrier is for.
Ian’s surge, measured from the ground up.
That is the maximum storm surge inundation the National Hurricane Center reports for Pine Island, Cape Coral and nearby communities during Hurricane Ian. Not above sea level. Above the ground.
Structures destroyed in Lee County.
Per the same NHC report, at least 52,514 structures in Lee County were impacted by Ian, and 5,369 of them were destroyed.
Nothing about a canal city is average.
Four things make flood protection here different from the beach towns, and different from inland Florida.
Water on more than one side
A canal lot can take water from the seawall side and the street side at the same time. A plan that only covers the front door leaves the back of the house open.
Living space close to the ground
When a single-story home sits on a slab near grade, a few inches of water is all it takes to reach the door sill. Barriers buy back that margin.
The biggest openings face the water
Canal homes are built to look at the canal. That means wide sliders and lanai openings on the same side the surge arrives from.
The 50% rule
The City of Cape Coral applies FEMA’s substantial damage rule. If repairs would equal or exceed 50% of a structure’s market value, the home has to be rebuilt to current flood elevation and code. Keeping water out is the best way to stay far from that line.
Every way the water gets in, closed.
Water is not picky. It comes through the front door, the garage, the sliders, the vents and the sewer line, sometimes all at once. Sealing one opening and leaving the rest is how houses still flood with barriers up.
Flood Barriers for Home
Custom panels measured to every opening on the house, not a one-size kit.
Door Flood Barriers
The threshold gap under every exterior door, sealed below the water line.
Garage Door Barriers
The widest and lowest opening you have, and usually the first one to let go.
Sliding Door Barriers
Lanai and pool deck sliders, where the track weep holes start running backwards.
Backflow Prevention
The drains. Barriers work above ground, this handles the line underneath it.
Flood Vent Covers
Foundation vents and utility penetrations, the openings nobody counts.
One free assessment maps every opening above ground and the sewer line below it, and puts all of it in a single plan.

Free assessment
We come to you, walk the property, and give you a straight answer on which openings actually need protection and which do not.
Exact measurement
Every door, slider and garage opening measured to the millimeter. Your system fits your house and nobody else’s.
Built in our factory
Panels cut, welded and gasketed by our own people. No dealer network, no shipped kit, no subcontractor with a box.
Install and walkthrough
We mount the channels, fit every panel, and put you through one practice deployment so you are not learning it in the rain.
Ready when it matters
Most homes deploy in about an hour. Prefer hands off? We offer storage and deployment service too.
Built heavier, sealed tighter, made in Florida.
2.5X thicker. Sealed under pressure.
Aluminum profiles roughly 2.5 times the thickness of most competing products, paired with larger, age-resistant dual-phase EPDM compression gaskets that seal tighter as water pushes against them. Rated to hold back up to 10 feet of water.
We build it. We install it. Nobody else touches your house.
Our founders’ own homes flooded, which is the reason this company exists. Every system is assessed, fabricated and installed in house. The people who measured your openings are the people who mount the channels.

Reinforced cross sections, deeper channels, solid cast stainless hardware and dual-phase EPDM gaskets. Put ours next to anything else on the market and the difference is visible.
Custom means lead time. Lead time means before.
Every panel is made to order
Nothing here comes off a shelf. Measuring, fabricating and mounting all happen on a calendar, and that calendar does not compress because a storm formed.
Surge comes back
Ian in 2022. Helene and Milton in 2024. Lee County has seen three surge events in just over two years.
The canals are not going anywhere
The waterways that make Cape Coral worth living in are the same ones surge uses to get inland. Plan for it once.
The assessment costs nothing
We map what is exposed and leave you the plan. You keep it whether or not you buy anything from us.
What homeowners say after the install.
After our home flooded from storm surge, we decided to install flood barriers. Dam It Defense installed them at all our garage and door entryways, and they store and deploy them for us when hurricanes threaten. They answered all of our needs. The product is well constructed and heavy duty.
Lee was very informative about the system. The panels are light enough that anyone can install them, and they provided extra pieces and even offered to move the sliding system once my patio is finished. The company has been easy to work with. I have peace of mind if another hurricane comes. Would recommend this company!
We feel very fortunate to have found Dam It Defense. The pricing was lower than any other company and the product far superior. The install team led by Andrea was thorough, professional, and did an amazing job. Everyone from the owners to the installers was knowledgeable and incredibly service oriented. It was a no brainer to go with them.
I reached out to Dam It Defense and Lee came out the very next day, on time as scheduled. He went over the process, showed us samples of the panels, and measured all the entry points. He was extremely personable and patiently addressed every concern and question we had. It really put us at ease.
Don’t just take our word for it.

Cape Coral flood barriers: common questions.
Do you install flood barriers in Cape Coral?
Yes. Every system is measured on site, fabricated at our own factory in St. Petersburg and installed by our own crew. No dealer network and no subcontractors.
How high did the water get in Cape Coral during Hurricane Ian?
The National Hurricane Center report on Ian puts maximum storm surge inundation at 6 to 9 feet above ground level in Pine Island, Cape Coral and nearby communities.
Do canal-front homes need flood barriers?
Canal-front homes sit closest to the water that surge pushes inland, so they are often the first to see it at the doors. A barrier seals the openings where water gets in: entry doors, garage doors and sliders. The free assessment shows which openings on your house are exposed.
What is the 50% rule in Cape Coral?
The City of Cape Coral defines substantial damage as damage where restoring a structure to its before-damage condition would equal or exceed 50% of its market value. A substantially damaged home has to be rebuilt to current flood elevation and building code requirements.
How much does it cost?
It depends on how many openings you protect and their dimensions, since every system is built to your house. Our flood barrier cost page walks through what drives the number.
What about water coming up the drains?
Barriers seal openings above ground and do nothing about a sewer line that pressurizes underneath. That takes backflow prevention, and the assessment covers both.
Can I install them myself?
Deploying them, yes. The panels are light enough for one person and most homes go up in about an hour. The channels get mounted once by our crew so the seal actually seals.
